New Years Resolutions For 2009

The new year has come and now its time to set of my plan of action for 2009, or in other words, my list of goals.

My 2008 list

Last years list of things that I wanted to accomplish:

  • Win a round of golf at the Pegasus Opening’s - Fail
  • Launch a web application - Fail
  • Get on the property ladder - Success
  • Get a new job - Fail
  • Get home to Ireland more - Success
  • Get my full driving license - Success
  • Buy a car - Success

4 out of the 7 objectives where successful, but personnally, that is ok as I didn’t have the best year. Let’s hope 2009 has a better outcome!

My 2009 List

In 2009 I have the following objectives:

1) Launch Hilo Design Ltd

I setup Hilo Design Ltd as a web hosting business in early 2008 with my business partner John Amon. It took some time to get things off the ground as neither of us never done anything like this before. We faced a few design issues on the road to success which resulted in alot of disagreements over a few things. Who ever said settingup your own business was easy?? However, John and I hope to have Hilo launched for April 2009.

2) Spend less time infront of the computer

In 2008 I spent far too much time sitting infront of my computer. I would sit and program all day at work and then come home in the evenings and do the same till the late hours of the night. I’ve decided I need to spend more time doing other things than been anti-social in 2009. I’ve had days where I get up at 6am, before to get breakfast and lunch. Maybe have a snack for dinner and forget to eat anything else and head to bed after midnight.

3) Get a new Job

In 2008 I aimed to leave Pegasus where I work as a Software Developer / IT Systems Administrator and move into Software Development full time but this never happened. I love working at Pegasus but I feel I need to move into 100% Software Design or Development so I can progress in my career and on the salary ladder.

4) Moan less

Appearently I have done alot of moaning about stuff in 2008. I’m not sure hopw people take me now as ive done it so much. I want that to change in 2009. I dont want people thinking that im just a moaner. I’ve had a crap year - give me some slack guys!

5) Read more

I never read any books other than on holidays and I want this to change in 2009. I collect a number of Web design magazines each month and read over them but I dont consider this as proper reading. Last year I bought 5 books and only managed to read 2 of them. Im still reading Bradley Wiggin’s autobiography, which I aim to finish by Jan ‘09. Then I can start on Chris Hoy’s autobiography and a few others I aim to read.

6) Get back to the gym full-time again

In 2007 I went to the gym every morning and followed my weight training programme to the tie but in 2008 after a few personal issues I failed to keep on track of things and let my exercise programme slip away. I lose of my weight I put on with muscle building and too look at me you’d think I never went to the gym at all. In 2009 I aim to get back on track again and put the weight back on.

7) Win a Pegasus golf Outing

Last year I went to all the Pegasus golf outings and had a pretty good year coming 2nd and 3rd a number of times. However, I’ve let to win. On the last outing we had, I was beaten by Mike on the 18th hole by one shot. I cried, but I blame Adrian for dropping my handicap that day. In 2009 I aim to do one better and come 1st place!

Please feel free to leave a comment or if you have any New Year Resolutions that you’d like to share!

8 ) Stay off Coffee for as long as I can

In 2008 I drank far too much coffee. I would have a Starbuck coffee three or four times a week and it got out of hand. In 2009 I’m planning on going cold turkey and seeing how long I can go without a Starbucks.
